first, tell us what relatiionship between your family and the immigrate sponsor? second, tell us what the US letter say? before we able to give you answer, that's very important factors. let's say, you can come to NYC this year ( 2010 ), then it is no need to take F6 in HK, i will say it is easier and better study the 12th grade high school here, graduated with NY diploma. then enter college. but if you may come after 2010, then you should finished F6 high school in HK. like most new immigrat, they will live closed with relatives... before they make the next move. NY City alone has 32 ( 2 years community colleges and 4 years colleges) , plus many private colleges and 6 State univesities nearby. so you choice is A LOT. because most colleges ( 2 yrs or 4 yrs ) are within city, so you should not limited yourself in CC only, tell the truth, all colleges in NYC are not that hard to get in. thanks to those black and Spanish dumb head ------ they make school lower their enrollment standard, so those C average student able to get in.... for my recommandation, i will say Queens college ( 4 yrs, ) is good choice. it has bus line to go to Rego Park area. that school is great for business and computer science. and biotech too. i live in NYC for long time, so feel free to e-mail me for more infor..in future. 2010-02-07 07:23:51 補充: oh, don't worry about those dumb head will lower the school quality, they are just easy to get in, but, once they can not make it good in first year. they will get kicked out quick.

In answering your questions: 1. The entire application can taken from 6 months to 1 year. 2. You should not worry about studying at this moment. In other words, do whatever you have to do regardless you have to immigrate or not. I will explain more later. 3. All community colleges in New York City are under CUNY. So technically they are the same one. I assume that your grandparents (either sides) apply for your immigration. So for the record, you still have about 1 more year to wait before you can apply for the visa as currently the visa priority date is May 22, 2001. (Otherwise, you still have a long way to go.) As I said in #2 above, do whatever you need to do. Just pretend you have no opportunity to immigrate because it is unwise to stall your plan based on an unknown or possibility in the future. Also, immigration to the United States always experiences delay. In other word, if you can go to Form 6 or other advancement, go for it, as you don't know for sure if you will get approved or not (Most people got approval anyway). In term of planning your study in the United States, as you are currently 17 years old, you may need clearance from a high school (or school district) to clear you for studying in a college. Sometimes, the school can refuse to do so. So you never know where you will end up with. Also, a lot of people tend to study in nearby area. As you don't know which exactly area you will stay (and City of New York is really close to New Jersey, which is another system). So giving more information than you need will only increase your stress rather than helping you.
